Kitchen Redo: Part One {Side Kitchen Reveal}

January 14, 2013 ·

There’s a small space off to the side of our cabinets and appliances.  I assume it is meant to be the eat-in area of the kitchen but it’s in front of a sliding door and placing a table there would block the entire entrance to the rest of the kitchen.  We have always had a desk in the area but decided we would finally paint the walls and add some shelving for additional kitchen storage.  We planked the walls on New Year’s Day and now (minus the curtains) it is finally complete.

Photobucket

The main wall was planked using hardboard and then the entire area was painted in Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore.  The shelves and brackets were painted in Annie Sloan Pure White Chalk Paint.

Here’s where we started.

Photobucket

If you didn’t know it you probably wouldn’t think it was the same space.  It’s so much brighter now!

    yup. we plan to paint the cabinets eventually. I first need to decide what will be the best way to tackle that project. Sand and paint, Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations, ASCP, etc.

    I love the brackets you used. I was looking for some a couple of weeks ago, but couldn't find anything reasonably priced. I ended up using some old shelves instead.

    You did a great job on your little corner – so fresh and welcoming.

    Hi Emmeline, I'm a new visitor, over from Elizabeth & Co. I can see why you were chosen as one of the features! This is such an amazing transformation! I really love it. We have similar colors in our kitchen right now…the dull goldish/tan on the walls, and dark stained cabinets. I would love to do something similar to what you've done. I'm pinning this for future ideas. Well done, and I'll look forward to seeing all the details. Have a great week!
