Petite Dresser Rescue

March 1, 2013 ·

We picked up this dresser from Craigslist intending to refinish it for our son’s room.  Plans changed and we ended up refinishing  a different dresser with a little woodland whimsy.  So this one sat and sat, and became a catch all for all our refinishing supplies.  That was until my sister and her husband told me they were looking for a small dresser to fit in their tiny row home bedroom.  I showed her the dresser, she told me what they wanted, and this neglected rather pathetic little number got a new life.

The first detail you may notice besides the Old White paint job is the “new” matching hardware.  We swapped out the existing mismatched ones for a set we got at auction.

We stripped the top with Soy Gel (our favorite by the way, here’s why) and exposed the beautiful wood underneath.  A simple coat of Wipe On Poly to protect the wood and we were quite pleased with the weathered look.

They love it too and it was the perfect fit for their little space!

Oh my, It's so simple, but so lovely. Goes to prove that you don't have always have to try and do something 'fancy' to make a piece beautiful. I love the look of the stained top.

I love the transformation! And I totally know what you mean about pieces like this. It frustrates me to have pieces lying around that I'm not getting to, but I'm always happy when they finally find their purpose! Some just take longer than others! 🙂

Such a beautiful transformation. I love how the white brings out all the detail in the drawers. And how sweet that you could do it for your sister and brother-in-law!

This is absolutely perfect. Love every detail! I can't wait to try that soy stuff myself on a dresser rehab coming up.
The hardware is just so right for this piece.
