What’s a Painter’s Pyramid? Vintage Desk Set Remade

June 24, 2013 ·

Yesterday I dropped this sweet vintage desk and chair off to their new owner, Samantha.

Now that they’ve been refinished you would never even know that these pieces didn’t originally belong together.

They look right at home in her kitchen.  The pressed back on the chair really complements all of the cottage accents in the kitchen while the vintage desk style pairs perfectly with her diner style kitchen table and chairs.

Today you can join me over at The DIY Club for the details on how I used Painter’s Pyramids from Rockler to help me refinish this desk with less mess!

Thank you Jessica!! We absolutely LOVE our new desk and chair!! They fit perfectly in our space and they are the perfect focal point for the kitchen. I love the style of the desk but your refinishing of it made it into a truly special piece. Thank you again!

Is the cushion connected to the chair by any means or is it resting on top– how did you do that is pretty much what I'm asking!

My husband cut a board to fit just inside the measurements of the seat. he then built a frame that fit in the hole on the seat (it was originally caned). The frame was then nailed to the seat and the seat was upholstered…foam layer (2"), batting layer, then fabric layer. I think using a thick layer of foam is what really made the difference on how this seat looks compared to other reupholstered seats. Hope this helps!

Forgot to mention after it was upholstered he used the nail gun to tack the seat cushion to the chair frame.
