Hundred Acre Wood Lamp

Happy Winds Day friends!
My kids and I were recently given the opportunity to view The Many Adventure of Winnie the Pooh!  If you haven’t heard it’s being re-released in a Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack!!  Set your Poohkoo Clocks for August 27th!
We love that silly old bear and his friends.  Piglet and Tigger were always my favorites.  Maybe that’s why a certain blustery day is my favorite Pooh adventure.  Little Piglet getting scooped up and blown away and then graciously giving Owl the best house ever, his house, is such a great lesson on being selfless friend!
I’ve been working on my son’s forest/camping themed bedroom and all the trees and blustery leaves in the hundred acre wood had me thinking.
Why not make a whimsical tree lamp!
DIY Hundred Acre Wood Lamp
For this project we started with the inside rod of our old foyer fixture.  Originally the sockets faced up but we bent them outwards to form a more rounded shape.

After suspending the fixture in our shower it was spray painted it green.  Always make sure to ventilate the area, wear a mask, and protect the surfaces you are painting around when you spray paint.

For the base we found a log and cut it up into 3/4-1″ disks.  A hole (big enough for the light cord) was drilled in each round.

Several rounds were threaded onto the end of the fixture rod and wood glue was used between each round to hold them together.

We drilled a hole from the outside to center of one round so we had a place to feed the cord out of the finished lamp.

The rest of the rounds were stacked and glued using a dowel to hold the holes aligned.  The round with the cord exit hole was placed to the side to be added later.
We clamped the stack and removed the dowel so it wouldn’t get stuck!  We waited about 15 minutes for the glue to dry.
Time to assemble the lamp!  We fed a cord with plug through each section of the lamp, attached the new cord to the existing socket wires, and then pulled the cord through until all of the pieces were stacked on top of each other.  Again we used wood glue at each connection and a clamp to hold them tight together until they dried.

My husband was afraid the lamp would topple so we got a larger round to tree for a base.  We gave it a coat of green spray paint and then attached it to the base of the lamp with screws.  Make sure to drill pilot holes for your screws so you don’t split the round.
Next came some blustery fall leaves.  Using my Cricut Electronic Cutter I cut a pile of fall colored leaves.  Using a simple sewing pin I poked holes and fed each leaf onto various lengths of wire.

The wires were then twisted around the top and sockets of the fixture and positioned to form a tree shape.  I made sure to bend the wire to allow clearance for the bulbs.  If you can tell we decided to use old green Christmas bulbs!  Not only are they leaf shaped but they blend with the fixture much better than standard bulbs.

Since my son’s room isn’t quite ready to reveal we got some shots of the lamp in the Pooh nursery at my parent’s house.

How clever! I'm about ready to make my Mr. go cut down one of our trees just so I can have some wood rounds to play with. Love the lamp!

What a cute lamp. I am a huge Winnie the Pooh fan. My kids are past that but our first and full movie we ever watched was Piglets Big Movie. My husband and I would laugh and laugh at Tigger and Rabbit. Happy stories.
