December 1: Washi Tape Tea Light Advent Calendar

December 1, 2013 ·

December 1st marks day 1 of the 25 Days of Christmas series!  We’re so glad you’re here!
If you would like to follow the series through the interactive advent calendar then you’ll want to stop over and bookmark this page.

Today you’ll be sticking with me as I share our 2013 family advent calendar.

You may notice that it really isn’t a calendar at all!  I wanted a way for our family to celebrate the days leading up to the birth of Christ that would help keep our focus on Him.

I picked up several packs of small metal votive candles that had bases the height of a roll of washi tape. I counted out 24 and taped them in white, silver, and gold.

They looked really pretty simply wrapped in tape!  For decorative purposes I considered skipping the next step but decided that writing the verses on the votives was safer than having to keep track of a list.  If you’d prefer to keep the candles free of text you could keep a list on the computer or print out a sheet and keep it nearby.

If your curious I used 24 passages from Blue Letter Bible’s list of names, titles, and characters of Jesus Christ.

Every evening (starting tonight!) we’ll let the kids pick a candle, read the passage, and discuss what it tells us about Jesus.  After the reading we’ll remove the candle from the table.  Just like a paper chain it will give us a visual of the countdown.

Don’t forget to stop in tomorrow to find out where you’re headed for day 2!

And again, you can also use the interactive advent calendar to follow along.
