Gone Kitchen Gone

March 4, 2014 ·

A lot of progress has been made on the kitchen over the past week.

Let me remind you what it looked like just before work started.

Round one demo included ripping out the beams, sink, counters, and wasted space along the side wall.

Round two took care of the cabinets, ceiling, lighting, and most of the walls.  Isn’t the blown in gray cellulose insulation gross?!  What a mess!
Here was my first view when I came to check out the progress!

My husband may have been joking but it would be awesome if we could find a way to keep the ceiling JUST. LIKE. THIS.  I think the beams and cross supports look amazing!

They started pulling back the linoleum floor and sub floor and it appears that the original hardwood will be underneath!!  So awesome!

Check back tomorrow to see our plans for the kitchen!

So exciting! Can't wait to see more of the floor and if the wood is salvageable!

Ohh, I hope it is!! It probably would have been pulled up already except my dad claimed that job and plans to do it on Saturday. 🙂

This is so exciting! We're in the midst of some kitchen work right now too, but nothing of this scope! Can't wait to see it all come together!

Awesome! I'm with you, that ceiling is so nice the way it is. And, what a bonus that there was hardwood under there! Even if it isn't perfect, that gives it character!

If hubby can figure out how to fix up the lighting and leave the ceiling open we may go for it! I just need to convince him!

I hope you checked first for asbestos? And that you wear a respirator/mask/eye protectors and cover all skin……Be safe out there!

I haven't been over there myself during demo (since I'm pregnant) but they are definitely wearing respirators! Thankfully the flooring can be removed in panels since the subfloor is being removed too, with little disruption to the tile. We've been told that the tile is not asbestos but we'd rather be safe than sorry.
