Vintage Modern Boys Camp Room: One Room Challenge, Week 1

October 2, 2014 ·

Now that we’ve been living in our house for a month it’s time to get moving on the boys’ room design.

The One Room Challenge, a 6 week series hosted by Linda over of Calling It Home, is the perfect excuse to get started.

When we first purchased the house at the end of February the boys’ bedroom looked like this.
Before we moved in, the entire room got a fresh layer of drywall and a coat of white paint.  The wood floors were painted in tan porch and floor paint.

Right now the room is clean and pretty much bare bones.  Some design elements are in place but it has a long way to go.
I hope to give the bedroom an updated camp feel.  Natural colors like green, brown, rust, tan, and white will ground the room.  A mix of vintage and new pieces will keep the room from feeling too dated.

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8
Here’s the plan:

1. Paint window trim and doors in Miss Mustard Seed Boxwood Milk Paint.
2. Hang antlers on closet door.
3. Make DIY frame and hang Topographic USA Wall Map.
4. Replace overhead light fixture.
5. Hang Industrial Sconce above twin bed.
6. Fix and hang vintage owl planter with plant.
7. Replace brass doorknobs.
8. Create gallery wall to include First Aid Box.
9. Fix up and hang metal storage basket with Galvanizing Compound.
10. Clean, fix, and hang inherited cuckoo clocks.
11. DIY arrow rug for under crib.
12. Swap out woodland painted dresser for two matching rust color painted dressers.
13. Decorate using collected items like wool blankets, owls, fishing pail, lanterns, and bow & arrows.

Most likely more projects will be added and some may be tweaked.

Check back in next week for another update on the boys’ room!

Thank Rebecca! The upstairs floors had some major issues that made refinishing a no go. I love painted floors and was originally thinking white but I LOVE the tan!
