American Odyssey Relay Recap #teamblogginjoggin

May 8, 2015 ·

A week ago I headed out to meet up with team Bloggin’ & Joggin’ for our American Odyssey Relay adventure.

What a trip!  I never thought I would be someone who would participate in a running event but I’m glad I did.  I was way out of my comfort zone but it was so much fun and I loved getting to meet my fellow teammates.  As a team we ran approximately 200 miles from Gettysburg, PA to Washington D.C.  We each ran three legs.  My legs were 6.7, 4.5, and 3.3 miles for a total of 14.5 miles!

We drove up on Thursday night so we’d be ready for go time early Friday morning.

Hometalk provided us a  super comfy home away from home and we settled right in.

The van 1 ladies (Heather, Beckie, Karah, Cassie, Me, and Jessica) had to be up bright and early to be at the start line at 7:15am Friday morning.

Here are the lovely van 2 runners (Paula, Sarah, Vidya, Alexis, Megan, and Chaney).

While our first runner, Jessica of Pace of Me, was running, I was able to snap a quick silly picture of myself.

I started out my first run with a smile.  I’m not sure I looked so chipper at the other end! 😉

I ended my run at a lovely covered bridge where I passed our wristband (baton) off to Karah of The Space Between.

After van 1 finished our legs we were happy to let van 2 take over for a while and we were able to stop for a bite to eat.

I have no pictures to document my second run but let’s just say it was dark and scary.  I now know I will never be a nighttime runner.  Small animals (aka mice and bats), and your average townspeople are terrifying once the sun goes down.
I was SO SO glad that my final run took place after sunrise.  I ran on a stretch of the C&O canal in the cool of early morning and it was wonderful.  I ran o a tree lined path beside trains and even had to wait for one to pass before we could cross over to track to our van.  My little man will be so jealous when he sees I was this close to a train.

Our team finished up Saturday evening and there were high-fives all around.

We met up with Vidya (our final runner) just before the finish line and all crossed the finish together.

It was a great experience!

Our team captain Cassie and Sarah.
