Tranquil Bookcase with Velvet Finishes Paint

November 22, 2016 ·

**This post is sponsored by Velvet Finishes**

Today’s furniture makeover was completed as part of The Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest™. As soon as I heard the sponsor this month was Velvet Finishes I decided to throw my hat in the ring. I’ve been eyeing this paint line for a while. The color selection is so gorgeous with an array of neutral and saturated colors. Velvet Finishes is a specially formulated water based latex paint that is low VOC and non-toxic. It is so easy to work with! It brushes on smooth and the brush strokes disappear right before your eyes.

This month’s theme is “Colour your World” so I picked out a striking deep teal blue color called Tranquil.

This color is exactly that. Tranquil. It is stunning and saturated yet still so grounded and at home with so many other colors. The tone of this color feels so powerful yet also very natural and neutral.

The bookshelf was given to me by my parents. They were going to trash it. We tacked up the trim piece that was falling off and wood filled a banged up corner on the top. I gave the top a quick sand and then wiped the entire piece down with Velvet Finishes Ready. Ready removes dirt and grime, deglosses, and prepares the furniture for painting.

The paint adhered and covered so well that I seriously debated whether to paint on a second coat or to allow the little bit of red peeking through to stay. In the end I wanted a solid teal finish so I went ahead and painted a second coat for complete coverage. But this paint, in this color, had amazing coverage!!

What do you think? Do you like this color? If it isn’t your favorite, what color would you have picked?

Have to admit color you painted your cute little book case is my favorite and have various shades of it in our living room, walls are very light gray. That color is becoming a neutral, love it in our room. Made a dark room into light soft serene room.I lived with ugly mfg. home vinyl patterned paper on walls for 8 yrs. before we finally painted.Don’t know what we were waiting for.Hope don’t have to wait for 8 more years to get rest of house painted.
Love how you styled your book case, how you arranged books, looks very snazzy.
Wishing you and yours wonderful happy Thanksgiving.
