Lush Console Table

December 11, 2019 ·

The power of paint never ceases to amaze me!

Recently a friend gave me some furniture she was getting rid of and in the collection was a console table with a beautiful base.

As with most of the furniture I accept from friends, this piece was overall in good structural condition making it a perfect candidate for some new paint.

The top of the piece is where you could really see that the finish needed some work.

When selecting paint colors for furniture I often consider the original color of the piece. I knew I wanted to stay with a deep color because it suited the console well, but also because it would take less coats of paint to achieve full coverage.

Velvet Finishes Paint generously supplied the paint supplies for this makeover.

I owe them a big thank you because I LOVE the color I chose for this piece. It’s one of Velvet Finishes newest paint colors, LUSH, a lovely deep green.

**Stop over at Velvet Finishes during the month of December and get 20% off all 32oz container of  green paint with the code DECEMBERGREEN.**

Goodness, it is so rich and luxurious.

If you’re interested in the painting process, here’s what we did for this piece. (Product links included for your convenience may be affiliate links. Thank you for supporting us in this way.)

  1. Fixed structural and surface issues. In this case we had to glue up one drawer slide and used a medium grit sanding sponge to smooth the bits of damaged surface on the top of the console.
  2. Wiped the entire surface with Ready, a Velvet Finishes paint prep product.
  3. Painted with 2 coats Velvet Finishes Paint in LUSH.
  4. Used a fine grit sanding sponge to lightly sand the finish smooth.
  5. Sealed the surface with Protect, a Velvet Finishes topcoat.

Last but not least, we added new hardware! The existing hardware seemed too small for the piece and were rather plain and unimpressive. I picked out larger more substantial knobs in a creamy white color. They’re a much better scale for the console AND the light color and subtle design really pop and make a pretty statement against the darker color paint.

I think this color is gorgeous! What do you think? Would you use green paint on furniture in your home?

Leave a comment and let me know what color(s) of furniture you have in your home and if there’s a certain color you’d like to see featured here on our blog.

Hope you’re having a wonderful week.

Seeya next time,
