Pure & Original Soft Asparagus Cabinet

April 21, 2016 ·

Spring is in full swing over here and our family has been busy enjoying the warmer days and spending much of our evenings and weekends setting up our first veggie and fruit garden. I’ve also managed to get a few spare moments to work on some fun furniture projects.

While I haven’t had the time to post on the blog as often as I would like, I am trying to be good about documenting all of our happenings over on Instagram.

One of the projects I’ve been working on is my April entry for the Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest™.

FFFC main graphic updated (4.9.2016)

The Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest™ is a monthly contest where contestants create a themed furniture project with a little help from the monthly product sponsor. The projects are judged and the sponsor provides a prize package to the winner.

The April theme is “Pure Colors, Original Elegance” and this month’s sponsor is Pure & Original Paint. Pure & Original is a luxury paint brand that makes their paints to order. Their Classico paint is a chalk based paint that comes in over 120 gorgeous colors.

Maybe it was all the garden veggies I have on my brain or maybe it was my love for the color green but I chose to try out Soft Asparagus, a white color with just a hint of green.

A large china hutch that was one of my first ever refinishing projects was the perfect candidate.

It made the move to our new house with us and has been being used as a toy and kid’s art supply cabinet. When we moved the mesh screening was accidentally knocked out and the paint had become quite beat up. I never loved the color and have wanted to paint the cabinet a light bright color and clear it out for my craft supplies.

I left the dusty green color on the interior for now (I haven’t decided on a fun interior color yet) and applied 3 coats of Soft Asparagus Classico to the exterior. Removing the doors on the base really opened up the cabinet and gives it the much cleaner “elegant” look that I desired.

Since my craft supplies are currently a royal mess, thrown in tubs and boxes on the other side of the room and up in our attic, I thought styling the piece as a spa/bathroom cabinet would show the versatility of this piece.

I really love the new fresh lighter color and can’t wait to fill it up with all my crafting goodies.

I’ll be sure to put an update on the blog when I make a final decision on the interior color. Do you have any suggestions for a fun craft room color pop?!

I should probably stop over at Stacy’s or Carrie’s (our featured hosts) to see all the other participant’s “Pure Colors, Original Elegance” projects. It might help me pick a color.

The Fab Furniture Flippin’ Contest™ is open to entrants who have signed up through the group Facebook page. If you are interested in becoming a member and having the opportunity to participate in future contests please contact info@fabfurnitureflippincontest.com to find out how.

Thank you Michelle! I really want to repaint the inside too for a fun pop. Just need to decide on a color.

So fresh and crisp, I love the two tone. I can’t wait to see your interior color choice, pure and original has so many to choose from. Beautiful job Jessica!

Thanks Brenda. I will probably use a latex paint because I want a semi-gloss finish. Pure & Original does have a great selection of colors though!

Altho our house is way too small for wonderful piece like yours that doesn’t stop me from wishing did have room. It looks very clean lined and taking bottom doors off cabinet made big difference on how it presents itself. Maybe light mint green for interior or soft coral?
That’s a big cabinet to paint, you did great job on exterior, know you’ll make interior prettier as well. Happy weekend

Love both your suggestions for an interior color. I’m pretty sure I’ll end up picking something in the pink, mint, or pale teal color way. Those are my favorite and make me feel the most relaxed and creative.

Just gorgeous! Love it! Good luck with the fruits and veggies! Looks like your off to a great start!

Thank you Suzanne! Hopefully our plants will all make it. We have planted a few largest plants already and some aren’t looking so hot. Neither my husband or I have gardened before so we’re using a bit of a trial and error approach. We’ve read a lot online but there’s just so much information and sometimes conflicting so we’re just trying the methods that seem most manageable for our life. Here’s hoping it all works out!

It looks lovely, and honestly, what an undertaking! It’s ginormous and gorgeous. As for a color on the inside, I’m seeing a soft, peachyish (but not too peachy) pink. 🙂

Thanks Rachel! My inclination, is a pink, mint, or teal color for the interior. Thanks for weighing in!

Thanks!! So glad I decided to ditch the bottom doors. Love the cleaner streamlined look without them!

I love the white – so clean and fresh. You did a nice job. I have a china cabinet left to me from my recently passed mom that I want to paint. Seeing yours, makes me add white to the possible colors.

Thank you Val. I don’t think you can ever go wrong with white! It goes with virtually any color and is timeless.

Well done, Jessica! Your cabinet is just gorgeous — and having all that storage must be awesome! Take care, Cynthia
